Empowering Young Residents Through Tuition Support

We’re thrilled to share the inspiring story of Tyler, a local student and resident, whose determination and hard work have earned him a place at Wellington College, one of the UK’s most respected independent schools.

Tyler’s incredible achievement was made possible through Tuition Plus, a programme funded through our wider SPARK initiative. SPARK brings together some of our most impactful training, employment, and support programmes, allowing us to better coordinate resources and help our residents achieve their aspirations.

Established in 2008, Tuition Plus was created to tackle the barriers many families face when applying for selective secondary education, most notably, the cost of private tuition. The programme offers free tutoring to our eligible residents whose children are entering Year 5, supporting them throughout the year as they prepare for the Secondary Transfer Test (11+), taken at the start of Year 6.

Delivered by the expert team at Unravelled Ltd, led by Sian Goodspeed, the tuition covers English, maths, verbal and non-verbal reasoning, alongside confidence-building and exam strategies. To date, over 500 local students have benefited from the programme, with many securing places at grammar and independent schools.

With the help of Tuition Plus, Tyler passed his 11+ exams and received offers from both Aylesbury Grammar School and Wellington College. His story is a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when potential is supported by opportunity and effective guidance.

What makes Tyler’s journey even more remarkable is that he has been awarded a 110% bursary from the Prince Albert Foundation. This support covers all of his school, boarding, and extracurricular costs, right through to university and his first job, giving him every opportunity to reach his full potential.A young boy, Tyler, leaning on a chair, smiling at the camera.

When we spoke to Tyler, his maturity and focus are truly beyond his years. Reflecting on his journey, he said:

“I was a bit overwhelmed, I didn’t really think it was possible to be funded 110%. I’m still pretty amazed, but I’m realising what I’ve achieved and that my hard work has paid off.”

Everyone at Fairhive, along with the team at Unravelled, is incredibly proud of Tyler. His journey highlights the powerful impact of community-led initiatives like Tuition Plus, and the vital role of SPARK in helping young people unlock their full potential.
