It’s Gas Safety Week – Keeping You Safe in Your Home

As your landlord, one of our most important responsibilities is making sure your home is safe. A key part of this is carrying out annual gas safety checks. These checks protect you and your family by reducing the risk of gas leaks, carbon monoxide poisoning, and fire. That’s why we are supporting Gas Safety Week 2025.
Every year we’ll contact you to arrange a free gas safety check. By law, landlords must carry these out, and your cooperation is vital in allowing us access to complete them. Once the check is done, we’ll provide you with a copy of the Gas Safety Record.
These annual checks bring many benefits.
They prevent dangerous gas leaks, protect you from carbon monoxide poisoning, and make sure appliances are working efficiently, saving you energy and helping to reduce bills. Proper maintenance also means your appliances are less likely to break down. During the visit, we’ll check that fumes are vented safely, appliances burn gas correctly, and all safety devices are working as they should. If a fault is found, the appliance will be shut down until it’s safe.
Carbon monoxide (CO) is a highly dangerous gas that is invisible and odourless, which makes it especially risky. Symptoms such as dizziness, headaches, nausea, or feeling unwell at home but better when away could point to a CO problem. If you need a detector fitted, let us know and we’ll install one free of charge.
What to do if you think you have a gas leak.
If you ever smell gas, suspect a leak, or hear your carbon monoxide alarm sounding continuously, call the National Gas Emergency number on 0800 111 999 straight away. Open doors and windows, turn off the gas at the meter if it’s safe to do so, and avoid smoking or using electrical switches. Once you’ve done this, please call us on 01296 732600.
We also recommend testing your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms weekly. If you live in a block with alarms linked to a central fire panel, our team checks these weekly on your behalf. Your Neighbourhood Manager can confirm if this applies to your home.
Allowing us access to carry out gas safety checks is essential. Missed appointments lead to wasted time and money, resources that could otherwise be used to improve homes and services for residents. By working with us, you’re helping to keep everyone safe.
