A season of summer fun for our residents

Our Summer Fun events are an opportunity to take part in a free fun activity across a week of the summer holidays organised and run by our Community Engagement Team. These events are perfect for children on their holidays, as sessions are suited to different age ranges.

Running for over 10 years, this initiative continues to strengthen connections between residents and our team, creating more opportunities for engagement, feedback, and enjoyment. From family days out at Thomley to Whipsnade Zoo, this year’s programme has been a definite success, offering free and memorable experiences for our residents and their families.

We welcomed our residents to Thomley, a place for people of all abilities and disabilities. This was our third time returning to this Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) venue and the feedback we have received has been amazing. Residents enjoyed the summer weather outdoors as well as making the most of the sensory rooms with fibre optics and even an interactive sensor floor.

This year, we hosted our first family day at Whipsnade Zoo for Fairhive residents. It provided a wonderful chance for families to enjoy a day at the zoo, connect with us, and have fun interacting with the animals. For the parents, we were able to highlight our volunteering opportunities and the services we offer. One of the parents that attended on the day, said, "It was a great day for everyone. The staff who came with us where amazing, helpful and cheerful."

Our Gallop and Groom day was another hit at Horsewyse in Long Crendon. The team enjoyed helping the children get stuck-in with tacking up, riding, and preparing the ponies ready for the fields.

Our Community Engagement Team Manager, said: “Our summer activities were shaped by what residents told us they wanted, more chances to spend quality time with their families and try out new experiences. These events gave us the opportunity to listen, learn, and build trust. It’s not just about putting on a fun day, it’s about making sure residents feel seen and heard, and opening up genuine lines of communication that strengthen resident voice.”
