Sustainability Championship – Hard Hat Recycling

As part of our Sustainability Championship, we’re proud to share a hard hat recycling initiative, that helps reduce waste and reuse materials through our partnership with Circularity Direct. This initiative is being led by, Sarah, one of our Sustainability Champions who has been gathering out-of-date hard hats for recycling so that they can get a new lease of life.

So, what happens to the hard hats next?

Once the hard hats arrive, they are checked and manually taken apart. The different materials are separated, and the plastic is sorted by type and colour. The plastic pieces are then broken down into small pieces and melted down to be cleaned and reused.

This process turns old hard hats into high‑quality plastic pellets, which are a standard material used to make new plastic products. These recycled plastics are already being used in UK manufacturing, with the long‑term goal of creating a fully circular system—where old hard hats can eventually be made into new ones.

A big thank you to Sarah for leading this initiative and driving positive change as part of our Sustainability Champions programme.

Small actions, big impact.
