This welcoming session is open to all residents and is a chance to learn and ask any questions.
What to expect:
- A simple introduction to LGBTQ+ identities and language
- Key moments in LGBTQ+ history and how attitudes have changed
- What life is like today for LGBTQ+ people
- Understanding common worries about saying the “wrong thing”
- Practical, everyday ways to be a supportive ally
It’s okay not to have all the answers; this session is about learning together and helping create a more inclusive community for everyone.

We have a range of events taking place during Volunteers’ Week, running from 1–5 June.
As part of the week, we’re hosting two sessions to help you explore the real benefits of getting involved. Volunteering isn’t just about giving your time, it can also help you build confidence, develop new skills, and play a part in shaping our services.
