Be Aware of Scams and Bogus Callers

We’ve recently heard about cases where people, pretending to be from housing providers, have tried to access homes or ask for payments for things like fake inspections or for future repairs that they will never carry out.
Just a reminder: We will never ask for any cash payment during a visit or at your doorstep. We also would never ask for upfront payment before any works began at your property and any chargeable works would be billed accordingly. If someone visits your home making these claims, it’s best not to let them in or hand over any money unless you’re certain of their identity. If someone claims to be from Fairhive or working for us, and you are uncertain, please give us a call on 01296 732600.
Tips for Spotting a Scam
Scammers can seem genuine, but there are usually some tell-tale signs. Here’s how to stay safe:
- Look closely at emails or texts – watch for unusual email addresses, spelling mistakes, or generic greetings like “Dear Customer.”
- Avoid clicking on links or opening attachments from unknown senders.
- Check ID before letting anyone into your home – it’s okay to take your time and ask questions.
- Be careful about signing anything at the door – some companies may offer help but could tie you into unwanted contracts by pressuring you to sign without checking the details.
Need a Repair? Get in Touch Directly
The easiest and safest way to report repairs is through the My HomeHub app, emailing contact@fairhive.co.uk, or by calling 0800 542 8904. This way, you’re dealing directly with Fairhive, not a third party.
If Something Doesn’t Feel Right:
- Pause – You don’t need to act straight away.
- Check – Ask for more information if you're unsure.
- Stay safe – If you think you may have been caught out, contact your bank and report it to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040.
