Community Hub supports individual on path to independent living

At our Community Hub in Aylesbury, we have been able to support and now share the remarkable journey of one of our regular attendees who, with the help of our Welfare Team and external agencies, is making great strides toward achieving his dream of living independently.

This individual, who has faced significant challenges due to mental health struggles, has been unable to work and has had little disposable income. For over two years, he has been living in move-on accommodation. However, the combination of high service charges and mounting rent arrears began to create an overwhelming situation, with his landlord even starting to take action.

Despite all these challenges, he reached out for support from our Welfare Team at the Community Hub. Together, we worked alongside external agencies like Helping Hands to address his financial struggles. Through this combined effort, we were able to secure funding through Heart of Bucks, which cleared his arrears and halted any further action from his landlord.

Thanks to this support, not only was he able to avoid homelessness, but he also received a crucial upgrade in his housing banding with Bucks Home Choice, moving from band D to band B. This upgrade significantly increased his chances of securing a permanent home.

Reflecting on the support he received, he shared with us, “I cannot thank the team enough. Without their help, I’d probably be facing homelessness again. The support I’ve received has really given me hope, and I’m excited to move into my own place within the next few months. I hope it will be a Fairhive home.”

The support at the Community Hub extends beyond housing assistance. We work with lots of different agencies to support with training and courses as well as employment advice, family support services, debt advice and more. Every Tuesday morning from 10am until 11:45am, the café offers a hot drink and a roll free of charge to attendees of the Community Hub, as well as anyone in need.

The Community Hub is open to all, not just Fairhive residents. It takes place every Tuesday morning from 9:45am to 12pm at the Vineyard, Gatehouse Close, Aylesbury, HP19 8DN. Read more about this support, and other Hubs on our Welfare page.

If you need more information or require support, don’t hesitate to reach out to our Welfare Team via email.

We are here to help, and together, we can make a difference in our community.
