Scam Alert: Keep an Eye Out for Suspicious Messages

A woman in a brown shirt looking down at her tablet with a worried expression.

We have received a report about a resident receiving a scam text message from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), asking them to apply for their Winter Fuel Allowance. The message looked real and included information almost identical to the Government’s official website.

Please remember, the DWP will only send a text to remind you about existing appointments or to update you on a claim you’ve made.

They will never send texts asking you to:

  • apply for benefits,
  • click on links or
  • share personal details.

Go direct! Check the official Government website to see if you’ll get the winter fuel payment.
