Spring Into Home Safety
Spring is the perfect time to refresh more than just your home, it’s also a chance to check in on your safety preparations. This year, we are launching ‘Spring into Safety’, a campaign designed to help residents keep themselves, their homes, and their neighbourhoods safe.
Over the coming weeks, we will be sharing practical safety advice on topics including fire safety, gas and electrical safety, scam prevention, communal area safety, and how to report concerns in your area. Taking these steps early can prevent accidents, protect your home, and give you peace of mind.
Resident Safety Drop-In Events
We’re hosting two resident safety drop-in events where you can speak with our teams and trusted partners face-to-face.
The first event is on Wednesday 25 March, at our Aylesbury office on Buckingham Street from 4–6pm.

This is an opportunity meet your Neighbourhood Manager, ask questions about home safety, and speak with our partners from Bucks Mind and Citizens Advice about their services and wellbeing support. Our Gas and Water Safety Operations Business Manager will also be on hand to show how to test a carbon monoxide alarm and provide guidance on gas safety checks, helping reduce the risk of carbon monoxide exposure and gas-related accidents.
The second drop-in is on Thursday 9 April at Meadowcroft and Quarrendon Community Centre from 10am–12pm. This family-friendly session focuses on fire safety, building safety, and neighbourhood safety. You can speak to our Building Safety team, learn about fire door maintenance, and get advice on fire inspections and communal area safety. Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service will also bring a fire engine for children to explore safely, while Simon Says Magic keeps our younger residents entertained.
If you are interested in joining us for either event, please email our Community Engagement Team.
Tips for Your Home
Throughout Spring into Safety, there are simple but important steps you can take to improve safety at home to protect yourself, your family, and your neighbours:
Fire Safety
• Keep hallways and exits clear so everyone can leave safely if needed
• If you live in a flat or have a fire door in a communal area, make sure it’s closed at all times to help slow the spread in event of a fire
• Be careful with candles and heaters, keeping them away from curtains, furniture, and other flammable items
Gas Safety
• Pay attention to any signs of a gas leak, like a strange smell or hissing sound
• If you think there might be a leak, it’s safest to leave straight away and call 0800 111 999. Once you're safe, call us on 01296 732600
Electrical Safety
We aim to complete an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICRs) at least every five years in line with current legislations, or when there’s a change of tenancy, to make sure your home meets current safety standards and to minimise any risk of electrical fires.
• Do not to overload sockets or link extension leads together.
• Replace damaged cables and appliances as soon as possible.
Personal Safety
• Take care with unexpected calls, visitors, or messages asking for personal or banking information.
• It’s always ok to double-check before sharing any details, this helps protect you from scams.
