Tackling Tenancy Fraud: Key Amnesty Month this November
This November, we're launching a campaign to raise awareness about Tenancy Fraud and offer those involved an opportunity to make things right.
What is Tenancy Fraud?
Tenancy Fraud occurs when someone occupies a property they have no right to, or uses fraudulent information to obtain housing. It's illegal and blocks access to homes for those who need them most. This can include:
- Unlawful subletting or key selling
- Giving false information on applications
- Abandoning a property without notifying us
- Taking over a tenancy without consent
If you are currently committing Tenancy Fraud and have the keys to a Fairhive property you no longer need, you can return them anonymously to us this month, without fear of prosecution.
Simply place your keys in a sealed envelope, no name required, with the address, and drop them into our key box outside our offices:
Fairfax House, 69 Buckingham St, Aylesbury HP20 2NJ
By returning keys, you’re helping families and individuals on our waiting list who are in genuine need of affordable housing. Every home returned gives another person or family the opportunity to secure a place to live.
We work closely with Buckinghamshire Council, other local authorities, and partner agencies as part of the Bucks, Herts & Oxfordshire Tenancy Fraud Forum to detect and prevent tenancy misuse.
We treat every report confidentially and act to recover properties where appropriate. In the last year on average, for every 3 reports, 1 property was recovered.
Report Tenancy Fraud
If you suspect tenancy fraud, please contact tenancyfraud@fairhive.co.uk or complete our online form. All reports are treated with complete discretion. For further guidance and to see how we address tenancy fraud, view our Tenancy Fraud page where you'll find helpful advice and real case studies.
