We’ve achieved SHIFT Gold for Sustainability
We’re proud to share that we’ve been awarded the SHIFT Gold accreditation, one of the highest environmental sustainability standards in the housing sector.
This exciting milestone comes just a few months into our new 2025–30 Corporate Strategy, and it recognises the real progress we’re making towards building a greener, more sustainable future for our residents and communities.
What is SHIFT Gold – and why does it matter?
Achieving Gold status places us among the top performers nationwide, with a score of 59%, ranking us within the top 10 of the most recent SHIFT assessments.
This accreditation demonstrates our strong commitment to sustainability, from how we build and manage our homes to how we operate as an organisation.
What this means for our residents:
- More than 75% of Fairhive homes now hold an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of C or above, helping residents enjoy warmer homes, lower energy bills, and reduced carbon emissions.
- Our homes are built to cope with a changing climate, with 97% at low flood risk and 87% at low overheating risk.
- We’re proud that biodiversity levels across our communities exceed national benchmarks, creating healthier, greener spaces for everyone to enjoy.
- From investing in renewable energy at our offices to sourcing materials responsibly and maintaining high recycling rates, we’re embedding sustainability in everything we do.
The people powering our sustainability journey
“This was a genuine organisation-wide effort that deepened our understanding of our environmental impact and reinforced the role of sustainability in everything we do. We’re excited to share this achievement and remain committed to upholding these standards moving forward.”
Peter Hughes, Chair of the Board, added:
“I’ve been hugely impressed by the work Fairhive is doing on sustainability, and this achievement shows just how committed the team is. While the journey to decarbonising homes is complex, Fairhive is clearly leading the way. I also want to acknowledge my predecessor, Stephen Stringer, whose leadership helped lay the foundations for this success.”
Looking ahead
As we continue to deliver on our long-term strategy, sustainability will stay at the heart of everything we do, ensuring our homes and communities are fit for the future and part of a greener, more sustainable tomorrow.
